But not all stores accept the same items, so it's important to know where to take your donations. Here’s a guide to six thrift stores in Prince George, what they accept, and how your donations help the community.


1. Salvation Army


Location: 3500 18th Avenue Hours: Monday-Saturday 9-5 pm Phone number: 250-564-4000 Proceeds Support: Profit from sales supports their community programs (food bank, pathway of hope, thrift store vouchers, etc.).


What They Accept:

✅ Good resalable clothing; clothing designated for recycling (please bag separately and label for recycling); household items; resalable furniture (excluding particle board); resalable electronics; recyclable electronics; burnt-out light bulbs; recyclable metal; toys and sports equipment; recyclable light fixtures.


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ Dirty or torn furniture; particle board furniture or entertainment centers; large computer desks; home renovation products (e.g., sinks, flooring, trim); briefcases; flip-flops; slippers or single shoes; stuffed toys; small scrap material; any appliance that uses a refrigerant.


Special Notes:

They will pick up large furniture. They have 3 locations, but only the one on 18th Avenue accepts donations.


2. Hospice Thrift Store


Location: 100 Tabor Blvd #219 and 7080 Domano Blvd Hours: Monday-Saturday 9-5 pm Phone numbers: 250-964-1505 (for Tabor) and 250-563-6823 (for Domano); Proceeds Support: Profit from sales is used to offer essential support to patients and their families facing serious illness.


What They Accept:

✅ Gently used clothing; tools and hardware; books; pet supplies; antiques and collectibles; housewares; functioning electronics; toys and games; sports equipment; cookware; jewelry; furniture; designer labels.


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ Baby furniture; BBQs or propane tanks; helmets; any flammable liquids; large appliances; used humidifiers; water coolers; mattresses; hazardous materials.


Special Notes:

Hospice Thrift Store has 2 locations, and they both accept donations.

Be sure to call ahead before donating, as there is a limit of 4 bags or boxes, and sometimes they might not accept donations due to limited space.


3. Saint Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store


Location: 1645 3rd Ave. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10-4:30 pm Phone number: 250-562-5136 Proceeds Support: The society provides clothing and household items for individuals and families who qualify for their voucher program. Profit from sales is used to fund their drop-in center and the society's other services in Prince George.


What They Accept:

✅ Clothing; furniture; books; household items; appliances in working order.


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ Hide a bed; portable dishwasher; baby cribs; king size bed; car seat;large desk; microwave; encyclopedias.



4. Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store


Location: 1655 Nicholson Street Hours: Monday-Saturday 10-4 pm Phone number: 250-564-7707 Proceeds Support: Sales profits are utilized to raise funds for UHNBC, aiding in the purchase of medical equipment and supporting student bursaries and scholarships.


What They Accept:

✅ Clothing; furniture; books; household items; appliances in working order.


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ No large items


Special Notes:

Call ahead before donating, as they might not be able to accept donations if they have limited space.


5. Second Chance Thrift Store


Location: 1152 3rd Ave. Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 pm Phone number: 250-564-8644 Proceeds Support: Operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association, the store's primary purpose is to provide retail training opportunities for individuals living with mental illness, offering a safe and supportive environment to develop work skills, improve social interactions, and build confidence. All proceeds from the thrift store are reinvested into employment opportunities and programs that support these individuals on their path to mental wellness.


What They Accept:

✅ Men's plus size clothing and clothing for men and women; small household items


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ Contact the store to check if an item is accepted.



6. Value Village


Location: 1666 Spruce Street. Hours: Monday-Saturday 9-8 pm (Sunday 10-7 pm) Phone number: 250-561-0311 Proceeds Support: Value Village is a for-profit thrift store, but a portion of their profit is donated to AiMHi (Prince George Association for Community Living).


What They Accept:

✅ Clothing and shoes; accessories like backpacks and purses; bed and bath items; housewares; books and media; small furniture; games and toys; exercise and sporting goods.


What They Don’t Accept:

❌ Contact the store if you aren't sure a donation is accepted or not.


Special Notes:

You get 20% off on a purchase of up to $50 when you donate clothing and housewares.



Special Items to Donate in Prince George


Reading Glasses - Many optometry clinics accept used prescription glasses for the "Recycle for Sight" program held by the Lions Club (250-962-0109).


Construction Materials - Wall to Wall Second Hand Store (1839 First Ave. 250-640-9293) accepts construction materials and fixtures like sinks or toilets.



Donation Tips
